Quick answer
For the closest match to the Align Short, buy the CRZ YOGA Butterluxe Biker Shorts in the inseam you want: 4" for yoga, 6" if you prefer mid-thigh coverage, the pocketed 5" for runs and errands. Butterluxe is 81% polyamide and 19% Lycra, the same split Lululemon gives for Nulu. Pick Colorfulkoala Dreamlux for a no-front-seam cut that claims no grin-through in dark colours, Sunzel if you want more compression, and Baleaf for three pockets and sizes up to 3XL.

The closest thing to the Lululemon Align Short on Amazon is the CRZ YOGA Butterluxe Biker Short, because CRZ's fabric guide gives Butterluxe the same 81% nylon, 19% Lycra split Lululemon lists for Nulu, and CRZ sells it in nearly every Align length. If you want a soft, high-rise, logo-free short for yoga, Pilates and errands, start there and pick your inseam; the three other brands below each solve a problem CRZ doesn't.
We haven't tested these; the picks come from the makers' Amazon listings, their own product pages and size charts, and Lululemon's Align Short page for the original's specs.
What the Align Short actually is
Lululemon's Align High-Rise Short is a Nulu short the brand describes as "so weightless and buttery soft, all you feel is your practice". The page lists the body as 81% nylon and 19% Lycra elastane, with four-way stretch, sweat-wicking and "added Lycra fibre for stretch and shape retention". It comes in 2", 4", 6" and 8" lengths and sizes 0 to 20, has a hidden waistband pocket for a card or key, and is filed under yoga and low-impact workouts.
Three things follow. A dupe needs a brushed nylon-spandex knit near that 81/19 ratio, not a polyester compression fabric. The waistband should be wide and seamless, since the Align has nothing to dig in. And length is a real choice: Lululemon offers four, most Amazon brands two or three. Lululemon doesn't sell on Amazon, so any Align Short listing there is a reseller; our check of who sells Lululemon on Amazon explains why we point readers to brand-sold dupes.

CRZ YOGA Butterluxe: the Align fabric, by the inch
CRZ's fabric guide describes Butterluxe as "ultra-soft, stretchy, and gently compressive", with a "lightweight, breathable & brushed finish" and "4-way ultra stretch with shape retention", and files it under yoga, low-impact workouts and daily wear. That is the brief Lululemon gives Nulu, and the 81/19 polyamide and Lycra split is identical. Polyamide is nylon under another name.
The useful part is the length range. The 4" Butterluxe is the Align Short 4" equivalent: high rise, seamless waistband, gusset, and a listing that names yoga, Pilates, cycling and daily wear. The 6" is the same short with a hem CRZ says is "intended to sit mid thigh length", and the most-bought shorts listing in CRZ's range. If you wear Lululemon's 2", the Butterluxe 2.5" is the nearest CRZ gets.
Two variations matter. The No Front Seam 6" removes the centre seam you notice in straddles and frog on a reformer; CRZ's wording is "No front seam. No camel toe". The Butterluxe with Pockets 5" adds side pockets for a phone and cards and widens the brief to cycling, running and volleyball; an 8" pocketed version covers Lululemon's longest length.
What CRZ doesn't offer is compression. Every Butterluxe listing says "very gentle compression", so if you want to feel held in while lifting, look at Sunzel below or at CRZ's firmer Butterlift fabric, which our Butterluxe vs Butterlift comparison covers. The shorts are the same fabric as the Butterluxe 25" leggings, and our year-long CRZ vs Lululemon test of that legging is the closest evidence we have for how it wears.
Colorfulkoala Dreamlux: no front seam and a dark-colour opacity claim
Colorfulkoala's Dreamlux No Front Seam 6" Workout Short is the other 81% nylon, 19% Lycra short here, so on paper it sits right next to Butterluxe and Nulu. The Amazon listing adds the two claims that separate it: "LYCRA BLACK Technology to eliminate grin-through in dark shades", and a no-front-seam cut with a gusseted panel. There's a hidden waistband pocket, like the Align, and Colorfulkoala names yoga, Pilates, running, cycling and light-impact workouts. A version with side pockets is on a separate listing. Colorfulkoala's site lists XS to XXL, one size further than CRZ at the top and one fewer at the bottom; our CRZ YOGA vs Colorfulkoala comparison covers both brands' charts and construction.
Sunzel: the compressive one
Sunzel's No Front Seam High Waisted Biker Shorts read differently. The listing calls the fabric "buttery soft, four way stretch" and "sweat-wicking", but its feature list is about hold: "squat proof, tummy control, high waisted, seamless waistband, compression and super stretchy", with "non see-through" alongside. Sunzel doesn't publish the fibre blend, and its inseams are spread across several listings (the Sunlissia 8" with pockets is the knee-length one), so read the length in the title before you buy. Sunzel's own site sells a version in 2.5", 4", 6" and 9", XS to XL.
Choose Sunzel if feeling held in matters more than the Align's softness. Our tested Sunzel vs CRZ flare comparison found Sunzel's fabric heavier and more structured than CRZ's in that style.
Baleaf: three pockets and the widest size run
Baleaf's High Waist Biker Shorts with 3 Pockets are the best-selling shorts of any brand in this guide, and the least Align-like. Baleaf's 5" product page gives the fabric as 87% polyester and 13% spandex with "moderate compression", a wide elastic waistband, a gusseted crotch with flatlock seams, two thigh pockets sized for a 5.5" phone and a hidden waistband pocket. The 8" version switches to 75% nylon and 25% spandex and adds a "seamless front design". The Amazon listing covers 3", 5" and 8" inseams and calls the fabric squat-proof.
Buy Baleaf if you need pockets that hold a phone, wear above a CRZ XL, or prefer a polyester hand that dries faster. Don't expect the brushed, barely-there feel the other three are selling.
Which inseam to buy
Lululemon's 2" and 4" are the yoga and lounge lengths; the 6" and 8" give thigh coverage for lunges and bike work. CRZ's listings follow the same logic: the 2.5" and 4" are filed under "yoga or lounge", the pocketed 5" under "yoga or training". If you're unsure, the 6" is the safe middle on every brand here. For hot yoga, our what to wear to hot yoga guide uses the CRZ 4"; for running, the lined shorts in our running shorts guide are a better tool than any bike short.
Sizing: two charts, both by waist and hip
CRZ's size guide and Baleaf's product-page charts both size bottoms by waist and hip, measured on the body: waist at the narrowest point, hips at the widest.
| Size | CRZ waist / hip | Baleaf waist / hip |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 23.0" / 33.5" | Not offered |
| XS | 24.4" / 35.0" | 24 to 25.5" / 33.5 to 35.5" |
| S | 26.6" / 37.0" | 26 to 27.5" / 36 to 37.5" |
| M | 28.5" / 39.0" | 28 to 29.5" / 38 to 39.5" |
| L | 30.5" / 41.0" | 30 to 32.5" / 39.5 to 42" |
| XL | 32.5" / 43.0" | 33 to 36.5" / 42.5 to 46" |
| XXL | Not offered | 37 to 40.5" / 46.5 to 50.5" |
| 3XL | Not offered | 41 to 43" / 51 to 53" |
The two charts agree closely through L, then Baleaf's XL covers a wider range and its chart keeps going; Baleaf also lists a height band per size. For the mapping from Lululemon's numeric sizes to CRZ letters, our Lululemon dupes guide has the table, and our sizing round-up collects fit notes across every brand we cover.
Care is the same as for the Align: cold wash, inside out, no softener, low or no heat. Our guide to washing leggings explains why dryer heat kills the stretch; the activewear fabric chart lists what each brand's leggings are made of.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Lululemon Align Shorts dupe on Amazon?
The CRZ YOGA Butterluxe Biker Short. CRZ gives Butterluxe the same 81% nylon, 19% Lycra blend Lululemon lists for Nulu, sells it in 2.5", 4", 5", 6" and 8" lengths, and ships it from its own Amazon store.
Are CRZ YOGA biker shorts the same fabric as the Align Short?
Not the same fabric, but the same recipe: both makers publish an 81/19 nylon (polyamide) and Lycra split, and both describe a brushed, buttery, gently compressive knit for yoga and low-impact work.
Which Align shorts dupe has pockets?
CRZ's Butterluxe with Pockets 5" and 8" have side pockets; Colorfulkoala's Dreamlux has a hidden waistband pocket like the Align, plus a separate pocketed listing; Baleaf's have two thigh pockets and a hidden waistband pocket.
Do Align dupe shorts go see-through in a squat?
Only the makers' words say. Colorfulkoala claims LYCRA BLACK stops grin-through in dark shades, Sunzel and Baleaf call their shorts squat proof, and CRZ makes that claim for Butterluxe leggings. Check any pair in bright light before class; our squat-proof leggings guide explains the test.
