Alo Yoga vs Lululemon: Which Brand Is Worth Your Money?

Alo and Lululemon are the two brands people mean when they say "studio-to-street", and they are priced closely enough that most shoppers end up choosing between them. They are not the same. Lululemon is a technical apparel company that happens to be fashionable; Alo is a fashion brand that happens to make excellent studio clothes. Once you see it that way, the choice gets much easier.

We spent a season in both: Alo's Airlift, Airbrush, and Accolade lines against Lululemon's Align and Wunder Train. This is the piece-by-piece verdict on fabric, fit, sizing, opacity, durability, price, and the way each brand actually looks when you leave the studio. September 2026 update: on September 3 Lululemon cut its full-year outlook for the second time this year, reported comparable sales down 9 percent, and said it is shifting toward looser "away-from-body" pants as customers move off form-fitting leggings. Its "We Made Too Much" clearance is the deepest in years. None of that changes the fabric verdicts below, but it changes the buying advice: Lululemon's core pieces are about to be discounted more often, which widens its value lead. The Short Version

Buy Lululemon Align for yoga. Buy Alo Airlift for Pilates, barre, and the street. Buy Lululemon Wunder Train if the gym is your main event and you want technical fabric at a lower price. Buy Alo's Accolade hoodie and matching sets if the way an outfit reads on the way to class matters to you, because Lululemon does not really compete there.

Airlift vs Wunder Train

Both are firm, sculpting training tights. Wunder Train's Everlux fabric is the more technical of the two: it wicks faster, dries faster, and felt cooler in a heated room. Airlift is heavier, with a matte finish and more visible structure at the waistband and seams that reads as designed rather than engineered.

In a reformer class they performed identically: no rolling, no sliding, full support through footwork and long-box work. On the street, Airlift wins clearly. Wunder Train looks like very good gym kit. Airlift, in a tonal set, looks like an outfit.

Winner: Wunder Train for training value, Airlift for training-plus-street. The Airlift Speedwork costs $46 more than the Wunder Train, and that gap is the price of the look.

Airbrush vs Align

Align's Nulu fabric is the softest legging material on the market, so light that it disappears in a long hold. Airbrush is smooth rather than soft, with slightly more compression and a bit more structure. For a 75-minute yin class, Align is more comfortable, full stop. For a vinyasa class followed by errands, Airbrush holds its shape better and looks sharper.

Align is also more delicate. It pills with friction and is the wrong choice for anything with a barbell or a bike saddle. Airbrush tolerates more.

Winner: Align for pure yoga; Airbrush Goddess for yoga plus everything else, and it is $9 cheaper.

Alosoft vs Align

People compare these because both are "buttery". Alosoft is a brushed, cosy fabric with light compression, better for lounging than practice. Align is lighter and made for movement. If you want the softest thing to sit in, Alosoft. If you want the softest thing to practise in, Align.

The hoodie problem

Lululemon's Scuba hoodie is good, but Alo's Accolade is the piece that defines the brand: heavyweight brushed fleece, a boxy cut that holds a clean shape, and colours that match every Alo legging. Fit and Sizing

Lululemon is the more predictable brand. Align and Wunder Train run true to size across the range, and the range itself is wider, running from 0 to 20 in most core styles. Alo runs true in Airbrush and Alosoft but small in Airlift, where sizing up is the standard advice. Alo's size range on Amazon is narrower, typically XXS to L, with XL in some styles.

Both brands sit at a true high rise. Alo's 7/8 length is its signature; Lululemon offers 25 and 28 inch inseams, which makes it easier for shorter and taller bodies to get the proportion right.

Opacity and Durability

In dark colours both brands were fully opaque in a forward fold and a wide squat. Pale colours from both showed seam outlines under studio lights; that is physics, not a brand failing.

On durability, Lululemon edges it. Wunder Train showed no change after ten cold washes and a season of use. Airlift also held up well. Align pills with friction, which Lululemon acknowledges, and Alosoft pills similarly. Lululemon is cheaper for the technical pieces and discounts more predictably. Alo is cheaper for its yoga legging and more expensive for everything that makes it Alo. If you are price-sensitive, the answer is Lululemon for leggings and a hunt for Alo dupes on Amazon for the lounge pieces.

Style: Where Alo Wins Outright

Lululemon's colours are bright and its pieces are designed to be mixed. Alo's palette is muted, ivory, espresso, gravel, sage, black, and its pieces are designed to be worn as tonal sets with an oversized layer on top. That coherence is the product.
