Castelli Aero Race 7.0 Jersey

The Aero Race 7.0 is very light: our size medium weighed 112 grams, and on the body you barely feel it.

Castelli specifies Air_O Stretch fabric for the Aero Race 7.0, with CFD-informed panel and seam placement. The earlier Veloce fabric description here was incorrect. In intervals and races it handled heat better than anything else we tested. It dries fast enough that you can pour a bottle over yourself and feel dry again within a few minutes.

Flatlock seams throughout prevent the chafing that can start on rides over three hours, and the collar is low and soft.

Castelli runs small. If you are between sizes or want any room at all, size up; our testers who normally wear a medium were more comfortable in a large.

Pearl Izumi Men's Attack Jersey

The Attack's fabric looks and feels more expensive than its mid-range price.

Pearl Izumi calls the fit "semi-form": closer than a club jersey, looser than a full aero cut. That suits more body types while still looking tidy on the bike, and our testers with broader shoulders liked the extra room through the upper body.

UPF 50+ is built into the fabric, which helps on long summer rides: the Skin Cancer Foundation explains that a UPF 50 fabric lets through only about 2 percent of UV rays, and rates UPF 50+ as excellent protection. It performed well from the mid-60s to the low 90s, and best between 70 and 85°F.

Pocket depth and phone security depend on the exact jersey and load. The selected Entrata’s three rear pockets have not been compared with this jersey’s pockets in a current wear test.

Gore Wear Spinshift Jersey

The Spinshift is the cheapest jersey here and the best value, and it keeps up with jerseys that cost considerably more.

The fabric is a little heavier than the others, so it isn't as aero, but it is tougher. After 25 washes the Spinshift showed almost no wear, pilling or fading. The other jerseys held up too, but this is the one we would trust most for daily riding over years.

The cut is roomier, especially through the chest and midsection, which suits riders who find race fits constricting. It still looks neat on the bike.

The pockets are deep, and the reflective details on the back help on early-morning and evening rides.
