Every brand name you type into Amazon returns results. That does not mean the brand is there. Behind each listing is a seller, and for activewear the seller varies more than most shoppers realise: sometimes it is the brand itself, sometimes Amazon, and sometimes a storefront reselling one pair of leggings in one size.

The seller decides the things that matter after you click buy: the price, whether your size exists, who handles a return, and how confident you can be that the item is genuine. So we checked it for 30 activewear, running and yoga brands.

## How We Checked

We used Amazon's Creators API, the product data Amazon provides to affiliate sites, on September 24, 2026. For each brand we ran a brand-filtered search and read the first 20 results, keeping only items whose title actually named the brand (brand searches also return unrelated products). For each of those we recorded who held the buy box: the brand's own storefront, Amazon.com, or someone else. Sellers change daily; the pattern is what matters. We plan to re-run the check monthly and will update the table when it changes.

## What Each Group Means for You

### Sold by the brand's own storefront

When the seller is the brand, you are buying from the company that made the item, with its full size and colour range on one page and a price it set itself. This is the cleanest way to buy on Amazon. It is mostly the Amazon-native brands (CRZ YOGA, BALEAF, IUGA, Colorfulkoala) and specialist yoga makers (JadeYoga, Hugger Mugger, Liforme), plus ASICS, whose shoes came from ASICS America's own account.

### Sold by Amazon.com

For the big sportswear names, Amazon itself holds the buy box: 19 of 20 Under Armour results, 17 of 18 Reebok, 15 of 17 adidas, 13 of 18 Nike. Gaiam and Manduka yoga gear is sold the same way. Buying from Amazon.com means Amazon's own stock and Amazon's standard returns, which is as straightforward as Amazon gets.

Two results stood out. Every Sweaty Betty and every Outdoor Voices listing we found was sold by Amazon.com, at prices that ranged widely from item to item. If you shop either brand, Amazon is a genuine option, but compare against the brand's own site, because the range suggests a mix of current and older stock.

### Retailers and mixed sellers

Beyond Yoga, Brooks and Rhone sit in between. Nine of the 20 Beyond Yoga results came from Zappos, 6pm or Shopbop, the Amazon-owned fashion retailers, and most of the rest from outdoor and fashion retailers. Brooks running shoes came almost entirely from running specialty stores and other resellers, not from Brooks or Amazon.com. Rhone sold 7 of 18 results through its own account.

These are generally legitimate retail channels, but the price and the returns policy belong to the retailer, so check both.

### Resellers only

This is the group to be careful with. All 19 Lululemon results and all 20 Alo results came from third-party storefronts; the Alo results were mostly Alo-branded wellness and beauty items, with apparel listed by other storefronts at $99.99. All nine genuine Gymshark results came from a single storefront. Girlfriend Collective came from resellers and from Amazon's German store, none from the brand or Amazon.com.

Resale is not the same as fake, but it changes what you are buying: often a single size in a single colour, at the seller's price, returned under Amazon's third-party rules rather than the brand's. ### Not really there

Some brands barely exist on Amazon at all. The first 20 Vuori results contained no Vuori apparel: other brands' clothing, and tote bags from an unrelated brand called Vuori Studio. Athleta returned gift cards. A Patagonia search led with Patagonia Provisions crackers and resold backpacks. If a brand in this group appears in your results, look twice at what you are clicking.

## How to Check Any Brand in Ten Seconds

1. On the product page, find **Sold by** and **Ships from** under the price and the Buy Now button.
2. If it names the brand or Amazon.com, you are in one of the first two groups.
3. If it names a storefront you do not recognise, click it. You will see its ratings and return policy, and whether it sells one brand or everything.
4. Read the end of the listing title. A size and colour in brackets, such as "(Black, 6)", usually means a single-item listing.

## Where This Leaves the Dupes Question

Many shoppers come to Amazon for Lululemon or Alo and leave with a dupe. The data explains why that is often the better buy there: the best-known dupe brands are the ones that sell on Amazon themselves. For about two thirds of the brands we checked, that is the brand or Amazon itself. For Lululemon, Alo, Gymshark and Girlfriend Collective, it is a reseller, and for Vuori, Athleta and Patagonia apparel, it is barely anyone. Buy those from the brand, or buy a dupe from a brand that sells on Amazon itself.
